Kovu was the middle ground pup, not too crazy and not too quiet, a nice balance between the two. He was our last puppy born and he was so so dark when he came out, if it wasn't for the tiny little patches on his feet, I would have guessed he was a solid black! He was relatively unassuming in the early days and it wasn't until around 4 weeks that he started to perk up a bit. Kovu was the dark horse, I'll admit I hadn't really paid much attention to him, mostly because he was so content to just do his own thing. It wasn't until I put him up on the table at 5 weeks that I suddenly realised we had quite the contender on our hands! There was nothing over the top about him, he was moderate in every way, with lovely bone and a bombproof temperament. It was amusing to me that the two pups I liked most were the black and tans, funny how genetics work sometimes. In the later weeks he started to remind me of his uncle Ace (Teylas brother) as he was happiest when he was with you and involved in what you were doing. He was not a happy camper to be left out of anything so we often found ourselves juggling making coffee's or dinner with a little Kovu in our arms.
I'd been contacted a few months prior by Robin who was interested in a puppy, but at the time it didn't seem like we'd have anything available. By sheer chance, we had a home pull out, which allowed me to have some local meet ups with Robin and his family, to see if one of our pups would be suitable. They were drawn to Kovu and Nigella and Kovu seemed to be the happiest and most content pup around the kids. Robin and his family had expressed that they would be interested in trying some lure coursing in the future and were open to the idea of me borrowing little Kovu for the occasional show debut...with then living just around the corner from us, it was an absolute no brainer! Kovu will be spending most of his time being a fluffy brother to his mini human buddies, and I can't wait to watch that relationship flourish.
